OBSCURA Scholarship for Young Artists

Dear Friends,

As a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization, OBSCURA was created in large part as a way to provide young people that might not otherwise have access to the highest quality education with that access. Now, in 2011, we are proud to announce our inaugural youth scholarship, The OBSCURA Young Artists Scholarship. The award will provide a deserving young person in need with a full scholarship to attend a two-week summer workshop at Maine Media Workshops this summer.

As an educational institution Maine Media has been a landmark in arts education for more than 35 years, and its Young Artists summer program has provided countless young people with technical skills and creative inspiration that last a lifetime. The Workshops have also played a singular place in the history of OBSCURA, with all of the organization's founders having taught, studied, or worked at the institution.

The announcement of this inaugural scholarship comes two years after OBSCURA's official founding, and marks the first time that we - as an organization and as individuals - have made such an appeal for support. We are asking for donations to fund this scholarship program, donations which can now be made easily online. Every penny of every dollar will go directly to the scholarship fund, and a list of donors will be posted on our website as a public thanks to each of our friends that can answer this call.

Thank you for your kindness,

Sincerely,
